Comparing the Mets promotion schedule with the 15 game plans

I have a few posts about tickets today.  Leading off, my jedi mind tricks worked on Media Goon who was kind enough to compare the Mets promotional calendar with the 15 game plans.  Did the Mets do nice by some of their most loyal customers?  Let’s take a look:

Closer Look: ethic nights and health awareness are nice, but my kid wants to walk out of there with goodies.

Friday+ would get him 3 goodies.

Saturday+ (which we had last year) would get him two plus a Mr. Met Dash.

Sunday+ gets you the towel, the bobblehead and a dash

Weekend+ gets you two caps (Irish night is the second) and the HOF day and a dash.

Weekday plan gets you nothing but the opening day bank that you don’t care about.

Looks to me like Sunday+ is the big winner, unless you really want a green Mets cap (I have one).

I wonder why they announce the promotions well-after the plans go on-sale?  Maybe the number sold helps entice sponsors who wouldn’t just buy on “we’ll probably sell a lot” type non-facts.  I have no idea how this works.

Within the hour I will have some thoughts about variable pricing.

  1. Likely for anyone buying a pack, promotions are an afterthought anyway.

Maybe they’re meant to entice the sporadic fan from popping over to the ballpark for a game? I’ll admit I do sometimes look at the promotions for this, but I rarely go _for_ a promotion, just choose that game over another. It’s probably a sponsor thing.

  2. A few months ago, during a discussion about banner day, I recounted a conversation with someone who works for the Mets about the Mr. Met Dash and the toll it takes on the field being the reason they only schedule it for the last game of a homestand.

This year, they’ve got dashes scheduled for Saturdays as well as Sundays. Obviously, someone decided that it doesn’t take such a bad toll on the field, or that the downside of the toll on the field is less than the upside of having dashes that aren’t at the end of a homestand.

The Dash is a fantastic promotion that costs the Mets next to nothing. My boys love running the bases, and it’s something the Mets offer that the Yankees don’t…
