The Mets have removed a granite slab from their Fan Walk incorrectly crediting Sid Fernandez with the win in Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. A new, corrected version will replace it.
WOW! You’ve made it into to the NYT! I found your site around the winter meetings 2009 and have comeback every day since.
I love your blog and your work!
Greets from Germany
Patrick
Thanks Patrick from Germany! It is pretty cool to be in the Times. Not sure what to say but it makes me happy and it’s just, well, cool!
Shannon – really into the blog, great work. Listening to Benigno and Roberts online and Evan just mentioned the Game 7 brick from the Times article. He then went to go on and say “Apparently some blogger found it; I forgot the blog…” et al… so who could he have been talking about?! Must have been you in my estimation. THIS close to getting MetsPolice on the air! Maybe send them an e-mail, let ’em know??
Unfortunately I won’t be able to make Opening Day (I’ve got work), but I’ll be there on my birthday on April 8th, wearing my Blue and Orange traditional Mets cap. Keep doing your thing!
Max
Max I had those guys on until about 10:15 but got bored with the NJ Nets talk. Rats. That’ll teach me.
Also, “some blogger” is really Tom. We should all honor Tom for catching the mistake. I just publicized it, then Cerrone and Metsblog really publicized it, and Yahoo picked it up and now the Times and WFAN.
The most important thing is that the Mets acted quickly. I don’t want to dwell on past mistakes. “Mets history” has been addressed, the brick was fixed….so we thank the Mets for their attention to those details and set out to eradicate black uniforms and get a Seaver statue.
