The Mets have the 9th most valuable sports team brand (Forbes)

Forbes did another one of their reports – this time focusing on “brand value.”

The Mets come in at #9. Guess who is #1?

I’m not sure Forbes did all of their homework…this sentence is suspect:

The Mets have built their brand in part by successfully integrating the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants’ storied pasts with their own

If you’re looking for me on Friday I’ll meet you by the Mel Ott statue.

  1. I have to think the integration they speak of dates back to 62 and not just our recent 07-10 Winter of Discontent.

  2. Actually, Forbes is kinda right on this. The initial formation of the Mets depended upon merging the fan bases of both the Giants and the Dodgers (hence, the combining of the team colors and getting blue, orange and, for the past decade, black). However, the current state, and value, of this team does not primarily depend upon this (since, unfortunately, many of the original 1962 fans that previously cheered on the exploits of the NY Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers are no longer around).
