Why isn’t Citi Field filling up?

I spent a lot of the off-season predicting doom and gloom for Mets attendance.   Even I am surprised at the number from last night.

30, 042.

Now that’s not the worst number in the world.  You do that 80 times and you draw 2.4 million.  However, it seems small to me.

The team has been interesting.   The weather is warm.  So why aren’t you going?

I’ll be curious to see today’s crowd.  It’s a hot day, a Saturday+ plan game and a giveaway.

Should be good, no?

  1. It takes me about two hours to get to CitiField, so waiting for the absolute last minute deals isn’t that much of an option.

Cheapest seats on StubHub right now for today are $24, plus another $10 or so in fees. Promenade infield seats are $30 from the Mets, plus another $11 in fees if I order online. I could also take my chances to see what they had when I got to the box office, but I might end up in the left field Promenade seats I don’t like or a more expensive seating category.

Add in another $20 or so in transportation costs, and whatever I might spend on food. I can’t afford to go every weekend, and I can’t imagine how families can afford to go more than once or twice a season.

  2. Maybe people don’t like CitiField and all the non-baseball b.s.

    Maybe it’s too expensive.
