Stop the Wave

Real Job Boss gave me some work to do

Shannon,

I was at the game last nite (yes, with my Shawn Green #20 jersey on), and needed to vent. Feel free to use my anger thoughts below in any fashion you want, or just to amuse yourself. Thanks as always for the blog, you do an awesome job with it!

I didn’t hear what Howie said about those ‘fans’ doing the wave, but I’m glad something was said. The wave has become an all-too frequent occurrence at Met games, and it has to stop. It’s a tie game in the 8th inning, Pelfrey’s got two outs already and two strikes on the batter, and the majority of the upper deck’s got their attention on these fools instead of urging Big Pelf thru it.

Not only is the wave outdated and childish, but more importantly, it looks asinine in an upper deck that’s only 1/3 of the way filled! My seats are in the top row of section 521, so I’ve got a pretty good view of the upper deck. Not only does the wave make everyone look foolish, but because of it, NOBODY was into the game! If you weren’t participating, odds are you were either cheering them on, or hopefully staring at them in disbelief. In a game that should have had fans cheering wildly on every pitch the last 3 or 4 innings, nobody was hanging on the edge of their seat when the Padres got a runner into scoring position, and nobody was standing and cheering with two outs and two strikes. It’s not far to the organization, it’s not fair to the fellow Mets fans, and it wasn’t fair to Mike Pelfrey. He pitched 9 terrific innings, wanted the 10th, and we’re more concerned with standing and putting our arms above our hands when the action’s going on? Please.
