ESPN: 45% of Citi Field vendors cited for violations

ESPN did a big report about stadium food safety. The Mets actually fared comparatively well – and I bet if you investigated your local pizza joint or fast food place you would be stressed….here’s the part relative to the Mets:

Citi Field fared slightly better than the ballpark in the Bronx. Forty-five percent of vendors at the Mets‘ home park were cited with violations. Inspectors found 20 pounds of grilled chicken registered at 70 degrees in a refrigerator at the ballpark, which is about 30 degrees warmer than allowed, according to an excerpt of inspection reports.

The Yankees of course had to go and out-do the Mets.  Forty-eight percent of their vendors had violations according to the report.

The rest of the story is here.

  1. funny…it’s been about a decade since i’ve been to Nassau Coliseum (with 0 critical violations), but i never did like the food there.

now the big question – do you want to know which concessions at Citi Field were in violation?

    1. btw, did you see the excerpt in the full report from Tampa Bay – 100% with critical violations, but “all vendors met basic inspection standards to keep operating”. scary!

  2. Very scary that these places are allowed to even function when the management of the team and the staff themselves could care less about the health and safety of the fans.

As for local Pizza joints having the same problems, I would bet differently. Most pizza joints are family owned ventures. Thats not to say all of them are perfect, however they have more at stake than the vendors at the stadiums, who I’d also guess lay down a nice chunk of change to have violations or “punishments” overlooked or lessened.

  3. On a side note, where are the team owners on things like this? They are laughing, sitting back and taking your $10 for an unsafe chicken sandwich.

For those who doubt me, what would YOU do if you were an owner and you knew about stuff like this going on in your place of business?
