The 1979 New York Mets Yearbook

Flushing, December 1978:

“Well, that was a disaster.”

“What should we put on the yearbook?  We got rid of Koosman. and Torre will never amount to anything.”

“How about Richie Hebner?”

“Hebner?  Ha!  I’d rather put nothing on the cover!  Raise the price a quarter too.”

“Another quarter?  We just raised it last year!  That’s another 20% gain!  We had a lousy season, and the Yankees have won back to back World Series!”

“Just do it.  Mets fans are idiots.  They’ll come out to Shea no matter what we put on the field.  I bet we could change the team colors and nobody would notice!  You think they’re gonna stop coming?  We own this town.  It’s not like we’d ever draw under 800,000.  Raise it!  Did you order the mule yet?!”
