Santana mans up once again

When I jumped in last night’s game late (I’m no longer revolving my evening around 7:10 starts) and saw the score, all I could think of was this sentence I wrote on Friday when I declared myself team captain:

This team needs more guys like Santana – who basically says “OK you #%^%#s I will go out and throw 130 pitches today because the rest of you suck.”

I can’t believe he only has 9 wins.  It was nice to see Jerry use K-Rod with a game on the line rather than save him for a 1-2-3 save in the 23rd inning.

Join us on the Mets Police Podcast tonight at 6:30. Listen live, lurk, or call in at 917-889-2723. So far the topics are Meaningless Games in August, yesterday’s roster moves – has the front office given up, and black uniforms 6 days in a row.  If you think you might join us drop me a note at [email protected] so I can associate your name with the phone # you’ll call in on (I only see phone numbers) – although you’re welcome to just call in and I will name you “caller.”

The podcast audio lives in the orange section of the main page, of if you punch “Mets Police” into iTunes you can subscribe.   We do it live at Sunday at 6:30pm although next week I’m going to need a substitute host (Dan and Media Goon, start warming up in the bullpen.)

Looking ahead – I’m on the road for much of this week so I will be spending my Sunday writing ahead.  From your end the blog should function as always (Media Goon will handle the “breaking news” stuff) but I may be slower than usual to reply to email submissions – however keep them coming to [email protected]   Last trip it worked out well with me sending things to the Goon to post.

  1. I know a lot of people get down on Santana for not being a true ACE anymore but he is as close to an Ace as we have and we need more guys like him on that field!

Not sure anyone noticed it but after the Bunt Warthen came out to the mound to talk to Santana and did anyone notice that Santana pretty much ignored him primarily keeping his back to him while Warthen was talking?

If you read the Santana body language there it pretty much was saying leave me alone and let me pitch if you want to win this game!

  2. Santana is an ace when you think of the support he has on the field and at bat.

Bet he misses the twins who were always in contention with him there. Wonder what their payroll and ticket prices were like year in and year out when they were winning.

  3. Santana is a ace! The way he has carried this team . He should have 15 more wins since he has been in New York .
