The Jose Reyes dilemma: How should Mets move forward with shortstop? | SILive.com

SILive brought up that topic that upsets James.  I’m at a soccer game James, just giving you something to read.

Trade Reyes and you’re right: You’ve got yourself a fresh crop of young players to carry the team into the next glory era.

Trade him for the wrong package: No need to tell you that the “Midnight Massacre” of Tom Seaver solidified a period of darkness at Shea Stadium.

  1. I’m coming around to the idea that the Mets need to trade Reyes this winter. They need to improve the team, and he’s one of a few movable players that could bring back some value.

Angel Pagan should be shopped now for the same reason, plus the little fact that he’s he had his breakout year at age 29 – his value will never be higher.

I don’t want to see Reyes go, but the window on this Mets team has closed. It’s time to start thinking about what you want the team to look like in 2012 & beyond. I don’t think that Reyes and Pagan will be able to contribute enough over the long haul to justify the salaries they will command.

That said, whoever is going to trade Reyes is the most important person in the team’s history. Do it right, and someday they’ll join Frank Cashen in the Mets Hall of Fame. Do it wrong, and CitiField will be a perpetual ghost town.
