Sherman kills Jeff Wilpon

Wow forget that Times thing and the Joe Torre stuff.  THIS is the must-read of the day.  Here’s Sherman’s opener, but it gets stronger.  Must read.

Let’s give Jeff Wilpon the benefit of the doubt here for a moment.

Let’s say he is not short-tempered. Tone deaf. A credit seeker. An accountability deflector. A micro-manager. A second-guesser. A less-than-deep thinker. And bad at self-awareness.

Fine, he’s none of these things. But here is the problem: This is his perception in the industry as the Mets try yet again to fix their baseball operations department.

  1. This is now getting scary…we are again in the Twilight Zone, where some boss’ son, has become a Bizarro George Steinbrenner running the Mets…with only the bad aspects of George, none of the good.

It may be time for the nuclear option…total fan boycott to force sale of the team. I’m talking average attendance of 10,000

  2. Does not have to be an organized boycott, the team is doing it to itself. How can you follow this team (without substantial changes) next year? Does anyone ever remember a September where there was just no desire to watch this team? I feel so disassociated with the Mets right now, it feels like January. Lots of us feel this way.

    1. Right Doc…but if it is not an organized thing, Mutt and Jeff, who according to Sherman is not very self-aware, will blame the economy for the dropoff and will hold onto the team. The message has to be that until the Wilpons sell, we are no longer coming to New Shea.

Jerry Seinfeld ought to buy the team…loves the Mets…could get a great group together to afford it…would likely not interfere…Mets would have a sense of humor at least.

  3. What this is news? I’ve been writing this for a few years now. Scouts I’ve spoken to hae told me over and over again that Jeff Wilpon was a meddler and a self proclaimed “baseball man” I was also told by scouts that Pat Gilick laughed at the Wilpon’s when he was offered the Mets VP of Baseball Ops job because he wanted it in writing that Jeff would not have to be consulted on baseball issues only money issues and Fred said no and Gilick hung up the phone.

Maybe this time Big Daddy Freddy will put the hammer down on this incompetent nitwit of a son and tell stay out the baseball men’s way
