  1. The yearbooks started going to Blandsville when somebody decided to coordinate them with the season ticket mailers and other advertising material. They began to look like corporate brochures. Synergy! And what kid doesn’t love that?

  2. Ah the true beginning of “Mets in Black.” What a wonderful campaign that was, wasn’t it? Do we have “Men in Black” to thank for the Mets adding black? Lovely.

  3. Check out Rey-O with the blue belt & sleeves and hybrid cap with the whites. I had actually forgotten they used to do that. I’m assuming that’s a pic from early in the ’98 season before the black sleeves reared their ugly heads.

  4. Sparks–absolutely. I had found a ton of pics from early 1998 but they’re Getty photos and can’t be published here. Of the ironies — at the start of 1998 — totally forgot this — they were still wearing blue caps on the road. There were also tons of photos of Brian McRae w/pulled up uni pants, blue socks showing, and the hybrid hat. I guess it was sometime in mid-98 that they began wearing hybrids on the road. For the life of me, though, I didn’t remember them wearing blues on the road at all that year … though they clearly did.
