Do you see Mets attire for sale?

Yesterday I linked to a story from September via Metstradamus which seems to have struck a nerve from Andy who emailed me:

I think that story is a whole lotta hoopla about nothing.  He posted this in September when those shirts came out in early Summer.  I would expect a store in Queens to run out of Mets shirts before any of those other teams including the Yankees because retail shops generally order twice as much Yankee gear.  At no point does the poster ever ask an employee if they had Mets shirts at any time.  They most likely did.  My local Old Navy in Scarsdale has had Mets hats and shirts all Summer.  In fact I bought this spiffy one there last weekend.  I think the poster is letting his own feelings of fan inadequacy get in the way of the truth.

Since it has been quiet (or at least it was before I pre-posted this and ran off to my 10am meeting) I enjoy a fight about “nothing.”

I haven’t done any research lately, but to my eyes the Modell’s on 42nd street leans Yankees (they have a business arrangements of sorts involving tickets), and they also are pushing football jerseys (makes sense.)   I see a few Mets jerseys hanging on the wall, but on par with teams such as the Phillies.

So Mets fans…you guys shop.   Do you see “Mets stuff” out there?

  1. while I can’t see whether I shop much and I did see some Mets stuff at Modell’s in Westchester…

I can tell you that on the streets I see a ratio of Yankees hats and shirts to Mets at say 20 to 1…

that means I’ll see 20 guys with Yankee hats and shirts and then I’ll see one Mets guy and then another 20 Yankees…

How’s that for an amazing articulation of a 20 to 1 ratio???

    🙂

p.s. But I do like asking the guy who’s wearing the Yankee hat if he’s a Yankee fan and more often than not the answer is NO.

  2. Modells on 20th ave in college point a 5 minute ride to citi field has a tiny little mets section. It was like that all season.

Modells in Jackson Heights on 77th street it barely had any mets stuff all year and not because it was sold out either. That is a 5 minute drive to citi field too.

  3. Yeah…I mentioned this to Shannon as well last week. Not only do your local working class sports shops carry less Mets items, they don’t even carry nice looking items at that. I know that supply and demands plays a huge role in what gets put on shelves, but I mean come on! In northern Jersey, at a local Old Navy and Modells you couldn’t even find Mets gear at all. Its embarrassing. The only places that do carry Mets stuff are the official shops at the stadium and on 42nd. No Good!
