Catching up on my Mets news this morning I see that it is believed second interviews will go to Terry Collins, Bob Melvin or Clint Hurdle…and I guess Wally.
Terry Collins: the stuff I read scares me. Like really scares me. Then again Joe Torre was a bum until he was a genius.
Bob Melvin: I am thinking of the song vanhalen by Nerf Herder. You have Google. Go look it up.
Clint Hurdle: I guess I’m rooting for Clint Hurdle unless Wally is an actual candidate.
Hmmmm. I’m not very excited. How about you guys?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
is what I have to say on those three. Really come on.
I haven’t cared very much about the manager search from the beginning. Whoever we end up with will be fine if he has decent players, and will be a scapegoat if he doesn’t.
Unless the stars align, I don’t expect a contender in 2011 anyway.
Why does Terry Collins scare you?
I am scared of Terry Collins because of things written by people who followed him while he was a manager.
See the LA Times references in this blog post http://www.metstoday.com/5244/10-11-offseason/collins-experience-good-or-bad/

It reminds me of the day the Jets hired Kotite. Philly fans called Mike & The Mad Dog to make fun of Jets fans. M&MD and I didn’t get it.
Media, I could not have said it any better.
I listened to Collins’ interview and he didn’t strike me as a man ready to take on managing the NY Mets. I listen to Wally Backman, and although he’s got a shade of Apocalypse Now in him, he sounds me like a man who is one with the jungle of the NY Mets.
Notice the way these Mets have been mailing in their performance these last four years? Notice how they play near perfect .500 ball, setting a record I heard for being close to .500? Think that’s an accident? Notice all the guys out injured all the time? Think that’s bum luck?
Wally will fix this house in a hurry.
One of the biggest problems is ownership/GM, in the past years. They have demonstrated no will to make needed in-season moves, and they have been willing to let made-men fester and mope.
Are any of these guys exciting?
