Wally Backman’s Big Day

Ok Wally, you’re up!

It has been a long time since you lost the Diamondbacks job. You did your penance in the middle of nowhere and spent a summer in Brooklyn without getting into a fight at Nathan’s.

Sandy let you through to round two, and 55% of us got your back.

You got this? There won’t be another shot at this one.

Best of luck!

….

Randy from The Apple should sketch out Colactus vs. BackMan comic book cover don’t you think?

….

I tried several times yesterday to wish Tom Seaver a happy birthday but the posts never fired. They showed up on the Google Reader version but not the actual site. Ghost in the machine?

….

One thing Wally has that the others don’t is an ability to look guys in the eye and explain that he won here.

  1. I’m pulling for Backman though I wouldn’t be upset if Hale got the job. Something about Collins and Melvin that just doesn’t get me excited at all. Maybe it’s that underdog role that the Mets are typically so good at.

  2. If Tuesday rolls around and we’re seeing Collins or Melvin up there, it’s the off-season equivalent of strike three looking, Mr. Beltran…

    1. As an analogy, would Francis Ford Coppola have been smart for avoiding Marlon Brando for Apocalypse Now and the Godfather, because Marlon has a reputation for being UNPREDICTABLE, etc.? Not a mellow sort? You treat ‘the man’ differently because he’s the man. You make allowances, and you tell the PR staff to back off when the going gets tough over some meltdown.
