The new Mets ticket plans: ask for another game

Hi gang – plenty of new content below this throughout the day. Right now I want this post up top because it’s “What i want to say” for the day.

I must be mellowing or just really tired (and I am) because unlike Media Goon I am not upset by the plans.

If you wanted a 15 game plan you either bought one or not. I like going with Junior on weekends so I did. Logically I know I should have played the secondary market (hey how about that new Mets Police tickets icon on the main page?). Emotionally, and that’s what ALL of this is about, I like sitting in “my” seats.

That gets back to the tribe mentality that I mention from time to time. We like to be around those of similar interest, we wear our traditional garb, we sing the traditional songs, we tell stories of the past, we meet at the traditional hunting ground.

Was it silly economics to give the Mets $600 or whatever it was* for a 15 gamer? Probably. Yet, in 20 years Junior and I will have 2011’s worth of stories to talk about or he can blog about after I am hit by the asteroid. Look what sitting in field box tickets watching Doug Flynn did to me.

So I have “my” seats and I’m ok.

If it interests you to have 5, 11 or 17 games, do it.

If you are chasing the opener or a Yankee game do some math and determine if it’s worth having extra games you may or may not want, or maybe it’s just cheaper to click the TiqIq icon.

As for the extra game being thrown in: so now we are mad that the Mets are giving away tickets? Goon, I will bet you a dollar that if you call over there today and state your case they will throw you an extra game.

If I am the Mets and “5,000” people make such a call I would throw every one of them a game. Most people won’t notice or care or be upset enough to make the call. Try it. In fact, all of you with plans should try it. I’d be curious to see what happens. I think they will say yes. Maybe not to a sold out Yamkee game, but I bet you can have the 16th game.

What did interest me is that they are waiving the order fee. Long time readers know that the fees are a major pet peeve of mine. I’d love to know which economics changed that allow the Mets not to ding someone for the extra $25 or so. That’s a post for another day.

As for my asterisk above: I’m no millionaire but here in middle age I have some disposable income. I use it on things I don’t need like a 9th Mets jersey or a 22nd cap. I bought tickets. Two months later I don’t even remember the exact price.

If the value proposition makes you happy, do it. If not, don’t. I once went two seasons without Sportschannel because I thought Cablevision was screwing me by putting it on a $10 tier in the days where cable bills were $50. Now I pay $15 for the MLB app so I can listen to Howie when I travel.

I can’t tell you if you want one of these plans or not. They exist. The rest is up to you.

Call the Mets and ask for a 16th game.

  1. My guess is that these flex plans are regular printed tickets, not the ‘package’ deal you guys get that get sent off to the ‘special’ printer with special paper and a special toy along with it. (and previously, media guide) Also, with your plan you have the option to have fees waived for any single game you want all year (this is still true right?). Not true of the Flexers.

You’ll likely have a chance, maybe only a day, before the Flexers to buy single game tickets when/before they go on sale. The same probably holds true (don’t laugh) for playoff tickets. The flex page does mention a priority for playoffs, and I can’t imagine it’s the same as you plan guys.

  2. I was looking at these plans and the “free game” must come after checkout or somewhere else because in totaling up the cost of my seats the website while waiving all fees which was nice still factored in the cost of the “free” game.

Still like the plans since some games I bring the kids and some i don’t and this allows me to pick games I will bring the kids (including Opening Day). Least the Mets are trying.

  3. Not for nothing, but more or less this was my idea I posted to you early in the offseason. The Mets really do follow your page, huh?

  4. ahh, I figured out the Mets way of giving you the free tickets.. amortization. They charge a $ value per ticket as if you were buying 5 games. So some seats appear more expensive, some less all averaging out to 6 games for the price of 5. Well played Mr. Math, err, Mr. Met

  5. Amen Shannon. For a little more than double the price of a 5 game plan I get 15 games all in my same seats (which is also important to me). I also get all the stuff Ceetar mentioned.

Last year the Mets gave me the 16th game as well. Granted it was late in the season but they were great seats.

For me, I looked at the cost of my plan and I felt it was good value for what I wanted. I’m not gonna worry about any other offers that come down the pipe. They need to sell tickets and fill the place and I support them if they offer cheaper tickets down the road. Isn’t that what we’ve all been asking for?

  6. Maybe I came off a little more whiny then I wanted to in my post, but the thing that really bugged me though was the waiving of the fees. That’s the thing that irked me. The writing I did about the bonus game is I was trying to channel a voice of some 15game plan holders and what some might have said? All in all I am happy with my seats and my tickets. Perfect world all sundaynplus games would be on Sunday but that’s what I have to live with to have the seats I have.
And I’ll state again, I am happy that the mets are offering a more diverse set of ticket plans. It benefits the fans and that’s whatbit should be about

  7. I would suggest that you buy as many tickets as possible in April or at least before the All Star Break.

My guess is after that we will be so far behind (unless you count a battle with the Nationals for last place as a race). They will be waving you down to fill all the empty seats and guaranteeing that “Everyone will catch a foul ball” there will be so few fans.

You probably will be able to sit in the dugout!

  8. Are they offering Bernie Madoffs seats behind home plate as an incentive?

These guys are throwing so much S**t up against the wall and hoping that something sticks for the 2011 season!

  9. I’ll be buying one of those “5 Packs”. I’m doing it to guarantee me tickets to Opening Day. Committing to 15 games, like I’ve done the past 2 seasons, is just too many for me. I ended up selling, giving away, or just flat out not using tickets to 5 of the 15 games.

The five/six pack gets me Opening Day, and then I can have it that I pick one game to go to each month. As someone that usually sits up top, or roams the stadium most games, if I feel like going to more than that, I can just buy a ticket the day of.

  10. I wish the offer for the packs was made available before I plunked down my money for my 15 game pack. I definitely would have taken a 5 pack instead. My partner in my pack only wanted 5 games this year, after 6 years sharing it. I had to come up with all the money myself. I would have bought 4 5 packs instead so I could take my wife and kids. I’m going to call and see if I can get an extra game for free. They should do something for me. This is the 15th year I have bought some type of package. I deserve a freebee!

  11. I called to ask if I could switch my 15 game Sat plus plan to an 11/12 game flex plan (allows me to pick the games I want to go to and that I can attend) and they allowed me to do it. Of course, I don’t get a refund so I need to use my remaining “credit” for future games. Same money but some flexibility…less perks but that is fine with me.

By the way, the flex plans give you an extra game but that basically covers the discount you get when you order the 15 game plan (10% off per game) so the cost is really the same (minus the $25 fee).
