How I Met The Mets: Real Summer of ’86

I just tried watching episode 2 of MSG’s Summer of 86 and I’m sorry, it’s terrible.  I couldn’t wait to finish it.  I think what set me over the edge was the picture of Keith Hernandez in a 1987 jersey.  That and the use of the same 4 still photos over and over.  Jesse raised his hands over his head, got it.

So, I’m all fired up and decided to release the unfinished 1986 episode of How I Met The Mets.  I have been planning to make this one better which is why I never released it…but even at this stage it’s better than MSG’s effort.  Give me 10 minutes with Darryl and Carter, and an ad-buy from CarSponsor and we can rock this out…..and I’m not looking to be a TV producer, just a TV watcher.

So…here’s the unfinished in-progress teaser for How I Met The Mets: 1986

There. In 54 seconds that was more entertaining than the first two episodes of Summer of 86.

Aficionados of HIMTM will note that this has the “old” credits (no Bobby V mustache shot) and I haven’t used any video yet (because I couldn’t figure it out).

If you’re a newbie to the series, here are what I think are the best episodes. I’ll remind you I am a fat guy with an iphone and no budget nor access. If you’ve seen these already, move along.

1987:

Subway Series:

Buddy:

and the Final Game at Shea (with blatant attempt to get other bloggers to link)

  1. Yeah I agree that was def more entertaining then MSG’s summer of 86. I don’t have any idea how they thought people would find this entertaining? I have seen those still photos on google images, i don’t get it. We want video’s and on field interviews, and post game comments of important games and dates of the season. NOT INTERVIEWS AND STILL PHOTOS! Thats my rant for now, i have more for later haha

  2. You’re correct yours is better. I was looking forward to this MSG series for over a month and was getting very agitated when the start of episode 1 was delayed by the long Knicks game and post game. When it finally started I actually said “Yes!” and pumped my fist in the air for an audience of my dog.

But the show was terribly done. They got many of the key people but utilized them poorly and the repetition of photo montages and written phrases was mind numbing. The lead into and out of commercial breaks was especially bad. I suffered through that episode but determined immediately afterward not to bother watching the rest.

In short I’m very disappointed in MSG’s program. Yours is a welcome diversion.

  3. your series is better. and no Fran Healy.

one thing i noticed in the photos used on MSG was the team picture at Shea where you can see the upper deck in the background, red seats except on our left side where there were blue seats. i’m a little too young to remember the transition of Shea of the ’60s to the Shea that I knew in the late ’80s and beyond. were the seats not all changed over to red in the upper deck in 1986 (or in any other season)?
