OK Mets fans (and actual Mets)…if this doesn’t make you want to go out and beat the Phillies on the field…I share this with you to get you rolling this morning.

It’s been very interesting living down in the Philly area as a Mets fan for the last year. The biggest thing that I have discovered is that the Phillies “rivalry” with the Mets has apparently been going on for decades. This was news to me – as I am sure it is to you. But to many here Mets-Phillies is a long-standing rivalry. Can it really be a rivalry if only one side considers it one?
There is a palpable hatred of most things New York down here. Now within that hatred there are layers and an apparent order. The highest level of hatred is reserved for the Giants and Rangers (no shock there). Next in line are the Yankees – which really makes no sense (unless you are a long-suffering Philadelphia Athletics fan I guess). Then the Knicks and Mets. (For some reason nobody really hates the Jets).
I’ve hated the Phillies for years because every time I went to a Mets game as a kid, the powder blue Luzinski-Schmidt-Carlton Phillies seemed to be playing–and beating–the Mets. I thought it was just me. Give back some of that hate tonight at Holiday Inn LaGuardia for the viewing party against the Phillies. But please leave your foul-mouthed little brother Phillies fan at home. This kid’s mom should wash out his mouth–and brain–with soap.
Typical. This about sums up the caliber of people that refer to themselves as “ultimate phillies fans.” Let’s check back in with that guy that threw up on the little girl last season. How’s his life working out?
