Citi Field starting to feel like home to me

For the first time yesterday Citi Field kinda sorta felt like home.

Year 1 was of course the year of not knowing where anything was…and Year 2 the year of “hope they fixed it.”

Yesterday, as I showed Mrs. Mets Police around for the first time, I felt like I knew the place.  I knew where to find Mr. Met, I knew the story of the Shea Bridge, I knew which stand would have some lukewarm chocolate flavored water.  (By the way, on Day One at least one stand had credit card machine failure – time to change that or at least warn us before we spend $20 in food – that “sign” below says Cash Only)

Anyways, I have a few memories in the place now.  I have “my” seats and my favorite places.  I have my own Citi Field routines.  There still isn’t a definitive on-field memory but that will come in time.

I’ll be out there again tonight.  I’m hoping that they give away parkas with the ski caps.  I’d tell you to look out for a fat guy in a Mazzilli jersey but I’ll be the fat guy in two sweatshirts, a Mets coat, and a Mazzilli jersey.

Corey you were right – I heard Howie say that the 7pm start was selected to accommodate a possible rain-out yesterday.  I’m not sure that and/or the possibility of a day-nighter today ever made sense but apparently that was the plan.

  1. Thanks for the acknowledgement. Yesterday & today’s starting times was a mess of poor scheduling by MLB.

Nats played Thurs night in Florida which probably lead to a 4PM start on Opening Day (pretty sure MLBPA has negotiated something about no day game after night game following air travel).

4 PM Opening Day Friday and 1 PM Yanks/Sox on Fox Sat meant that Sat’s Mets game couldn’t be earlier than 4PM. Mets probably asked for game to be scheduled at 7 just in case Friday was a rain out and OD ticket holders had to be accommodated for a make up at 1 PM.

Had the schedule makers given Mets an opponent that didn’t play on Thurs Night, this could have all been avoided & Mets could have played a slightly warmer 1PM opening game.

  2. Keep the Bobbleheads..Keep the ski caps…Give us a win!

This is the NATIONALS we are playing!

    Is 41,075 a sellout?

  3. Sorry Shannon! I would rather have a root canal then be at tonights game!

Cloudy and 45 degrees and both teams #5 starters pitching. This game should be outlawed!

I don’t think they could fill that stadium tonight if they gave away FREE tickets!

Sorry, I would feel cheated if I actually had to pay $$$ to see this game!

    Nice Ski Cap though!
