Avoiding inflammatory headline about Jose Reyes

One of the struggles of walking the Mets Police beat is figuring out what not to cover. I tend to ignore personal scandals like the one about the 1969 Mets player’s sex life, or the financial advice of one of the 86ers.

I’m also not out to get anyone fired.

However, I do write about things that interest me – and I find myself increasingly interested in Wayne Hagin. I mentioned in the spring how I thought the Howie-less booth was subpar, and again on Saturday I was bewildered by what I heard.

We’re not talking Sterling/Suzyn horrors but a Howie-less booth does approach Sterling/Steiner.

Anyways, the blog which chooses to call itself Fire Wayne Hagin Already is back for season two, and has a must read where Wayne recalls the time Jose Reyes had arm trouble.

What? Exactly. Read on.

More importantly, when will Bob Murphy’s name be restored to the Sponsorname Broadcast booth? This is an easy fix: just have Howie say “Company X proudly sponsors the Bob Murphy Broadcast Booth.” WFAN can have their sale and the team can keep its soul. Don’t let this become a thing Mets, I’m telling you how this goes….a non-controversy controversy awaits. Tell WFAN to fix this.

  1. I understand that terrestrial radio needs sponsors, but the relentless of the commercial messages DURING THE GAME on FAN renders the broadcasts nearly unlistenable. And Wayne only makes it worse. We need to save Howie, before we lose him.
