I really like the idea of a second Wild Card but I would prefer a different execution…go back to having two divisions in each league (East and West) and then add the two Wild Card teams. The two Wild Card teams would be the teams with the best records regardless of which division they’re in. So if both wild card’s come from the east, they come from the east.
What I hate about the current playoff system is that teams get rewarded for winning a mediocre division and a team that may have a better record doesn’t make the playoffs because they happen to be in a more competitive division. I think my way would help eliminate some of that. I know it wouldn’t be perfect, but I like it.
