“All I do is train dogs and people are starting to hate on me — they’re surprised of all the tricks my dog can do,” Fernandez told NBC New York in Spanish, with his daughter interpreting.

The dog is often dressed in a Groucho Marx disguise and sits outside Yankee Stadium or Citi Field on game days. She wears a Wright No. 5 jersey for Mets games, pinstripes for Yankee games and has a plastic container for donations at her feet.

Fernandez says he makes about $75 in tips per game.

  1. Honestly I just don’t want to see her there anymore. If the mets and the city could tell him to scram if they really wanted to but in typical wilpon fashion they don’t. And where are the players in this? You can’t tell me nOne of them has heard about this by now.

  2. The Mets can’t tell him to scram, the grounds outside the park are City, and Parks property. And, the City isn’t doing anything because no animal cruelty offense has taken place.
Imagine the uproar if the Citi Field staff started harassing vender’s working outside the ballpark on city property.

I look at all of this as just more fools trying to find something to hate the Wilpons about, nothing more. Everyone need to just relax, and get over it. How is this any different than people training animals for movies or horses pulling Hansom cabs in the city?

Plus, that dog looked pretty damn happy to me.

  3. damn, man….that’s just wrong

“75 bucks a game in tips”?

im not sure i believe that, but nothing would surprise me…not that i rake in the bucks, but maybe that owner should “get a f*ckin’ job” as many are wont to say

still, cruelty or no (not my call, but it is wrong if not cruel)…to be dressing the dog up in groucho marx glasses and making him hold a pipe for hours?

i will say what IS cruel — dressing the dog in replicas and BFBS jerseys…now THAT’s cruel

  4. You really think things like this don’t point to organizational dysfunction? Anyone remember Walter reed a year ago?

  5. The mets allowed this to become a “thing”. They always have excelled at creating bad publicity though.
