More Mets uniform rumors

Reportedly, the Mets’ home unies will more closely resemble the 1960s version, with pinstripes, the familiar Mets script logo in blue and orange minus the black shadowing, and blue hats. There will also be a white, pinstripe-less top for home games, and the black uniform tops will remain an alternate jersey.

This matches what I have been hearing.  The black stays in rotation, but at a lesser clip.  Since I have proposed this compromise in the various forms of the Treaty of Flushing I’m fine with it.

I can’t find my notes, but my understanding is the patch is a skyline, some use of 50th Anniversary, and has some gold trim.  I’m told it looks quite nice.

I will be at the event on Wednesday and am an excited combination of thrilled/stunned that I get to be there.

Later this week I will be berating you guys that you better support this with some purchasing of merchandise.  I know times are tough but start squirreling away $75-$90 or so for a replica.  Zod help us if we open the door to “it didn’t sell.”

  1. What I want to know is: Will there be blue hats on the road?

Also, is anyone else cynical enough to think that the Mets are making these concessions to us (blue walls included) because the team will be nearly unwatchable in 2012?

    1. I think they realize, based on attendance and even more importantly TV ratings, that they need to change things and fast before the Yankees get even more entrenched. The longer the Yankees keep getting the youngsters, the harder it will be for the Mets to winback NYC when and if they are the better team on the field.

I think they read blogs, including this one. Seems like a small investment to at least re-connect with the 35 and older demographic by going back to their roots. Might even sell a lot of merchandise. Meanwhile, they need to somehow start building a farm system so that in a few years, by adding a couple of free agents, they can compete again. Remember that when the Mets hit rock bottom in 1979, they were very competitive within 5 years. of course, new ownership was required.
