… fans lately had petitioned the club to restore it, says Dave Howard, the Mets’ executive VP of business operations, especially via social media, email and blogs. “It’s part of who we are,” Howard says.
The Mets have not finalized a date for next year’s Banner Day, but it likely will be before a Sunday afternoon game in late May or early June, “so the weather will be good,” Howard says. There will be judges and the club could let fans be a part of the voting via text, Howard says.
Fans will walk the warning track and be free to say what they want about the Mets — within the boundaries of good taste, of course. Some might say, given the current state of the franchise and its off-the-field financial issues, the Mets are testing their luck by providing this kind of forum. Howard says he’s confident Met fans “will be appropriate.”
“It’s part of who we are.” Damn I love hearing Dave say that.
Right there, that sentence, shows “they” (whoever they are) get it. Holy crap I think we got through.
Hey Dave, May’s a little better for me than June….if ya can.
