Issue #3 February 8, 2012

www.metspolice.com and @metspolice on twitter

This week: We got a date for Banner Day, and I’m pretty excited.

The Mets also surprised me with a 9pm tweet about the St. Patrick’s Day jerseys.  I think they are pretty snazzy looking.

How does one become the King of Piazza?  Keep reading.

..and we’ll wrap with an old friend who got a haircut.

If you’d like to contact me or submit items for the newsletter my email is [email protected] and I’m very active on twitter @metspolice

Banner Day is May 27th

FLUSHING, N.Y., February 1, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced Banner Day will return Sunday, May 27 prior to the Mets playing the San Diego Padres at 1:10 p.m. at Citi Field.

Tickets for Banner Day are on sale now through the Mets 50th Anniversary Banner Day Pack on Mets.com.  The five-game pack starts at $50 and also includes games against the San Francisco Giants (Saturday, April 21), Cincinnati Reds (Friday, June 15) and Miami Marlins (Thursday, August 9 and Friday, September 21).

The revival of Banner Day is part of the Mets season-long 50th Anniversary celebration and banners should illustrate fans’ favorite memories and moments in franchise history.  Fans can visit Mets50.com to share their favorite photos and memories from past Banner Days.

Banner Day was a Mets tradition from 1963 to 1996 with fans of all ages parading on the field showing their homemade banners made with bed sheets that professed their love for the team.

The Mets will announce more details about Banner Day including guest judges, prizes and logistics in the weeks leading up to the event.

The Mets also have a beautiful photo gallery of past Banner Days here.

Ron Darling to paint homes for Habitat for Humanity

Former Mets star and SNY broadcaster Ron Darling and his family to join eight NYC couples in celebrating Valentine’s Day . . . with their loved ones in one hand and a paintbrush in the other!

The volunteer couples will help paint the walls of Habitat for Humanity – New York City homes in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, for families in need of affordable homes.

During the Valentine’s Day weekend, 16 New Yorkers – eight couples – will put their hearts into building affordable Habitat-NYC homes for low-income families. These heartwarming volunteers also raised $4,000 to help cover construction costs for the homes.

Mets Alumnus Ron Darling, his wife Joanna and son Jordan will help paint.

Mets to wear green jerseys on St. Patrick’s Day.

Here’s the nice looking jersey that the Mets will wear on 3/17.

As of this writing I believe that the jersey will only be on sale at Digital Domain Park although it is possible that will change.  I’m hoping to pick one up myself when I am there for the opening two games.

There will also be a similarly themed cap of some sort.  I will share that picture onMetsPolice.com as soon as I get it.

The King Of Piazza

In this week’s throwback column it’s a look back at The King of Piazza.

Around this time last year, readers of the blog submitted their Piazza-related belongings.

Believe it or not the photo on the left was the collection of the runner up!

It was the Mercury Mets Piazza jersey that clinched it, and to see that..read the original article online.

Man gets haircut.

I know, I know, its like stalking your ex on Facebook.

The Marlins have a policy which required Jose Reyes to get a haircut…and the haircut was televised with the hair being auctioned off for charity.
