Hey my softball team went 1-27 one season. The one was our last game I still don’t remember most of that night. Accentuate the positive Bobby cost
Hey Bob Costas: Shove it up your pompous ass.
Thank you.
Old news — he has since apologized.
I honestly thought he meant it tongue-in-cheek when I first heard it.
I guess Costas was testing out his sentiments on a team that rarely gets defended, and when he met with resistance (have you met the Internet, Bob?) he meekly backed off.
I also believe Costas meant this as a tongue in cheek comment, but when he demurred, he missed an opportunity to point out why there was a grain of wisdom in it. IMHO, there *is* a bit too much celebration in walk-offs these days. Just look at a few clips from even 20 years ago and you’ll see how much more professional and dignified it looks to simply trot back into the clubhouse after a ninth-inning blast. (Let’s face it, there’s never been a better way to convey the badass ideal that most MLB players today claim to possess.)
In fact, I’m waiting for the season when some embittered Red Sox or Pirates team (for example) decide there’s too much back-slapping going on in their lesser opponents’ dugout, and start throwing at heads, and taking out catchers at home plate, like they used to do back in the good old days. 😉 The way baseball trends cycle around, it’s only a matter of time.
