Can lame duck Terry Collins be trusted with a pitching staff?

mets bowling terry collins colactusI like Terry Collins. Terry Collins is not under contract for 2014.

If you’re Terry Collins at this stage of your career, what is the next stop on the train? Roving instructor for the Royals? No, you want the major league manager job.

And since you want the case for the job, there very well may be a big difference between 79 wins and 74 wins. Every win counts.

Then there’s the pesky pitch count thing that you guys get mad at. Nohan. Niese back to back cold weather starts (he is coming back in 10 days, right?). And here is an eye-opener…

According to ESPN alumnus Steve Glasser, tonight marked the fifth time this season Harvey took the mound for an inning with his pitch count already at 100. It was the first outing in which he even finished an inning in that situation. Harvey has allowed a run in four of those five appearances. In fact, Glasser noted, Harvey has allowed eight earned runs in 1 2/3 innings in those situations — good for a 43.20 ERA. In innings this season that he began without his pitch count having reached 100, Harvey has allowed 29 earned runs in 135 innings, for a 1.93 ERA.

So why is Harvey throwing 121 pitches with a blister for a team that is 10 under, 11.5 out and needs to jump 9 teams to get into the Wild Card one-game playoff? Would it be better if Terry knew he was manager in 2014? And if he isn’t going to be, should the next guy be put in place now the way Bobby Valentine mopped up whatever year that was?

  1. I like TC but I don’t think he is our future manager. My problem is that I don’t know who should be the Manager. I like the idea of Backman but is he really the answer????

  2. I don’t think anyone has mentioned him, but what about Joey Cora?
