It’s just another example of the self-perpetuating system created by people who have to have something to write about every day.  Whatever negative legacy Beltran has with the Mets was shaped by writers like Sherman, who were there stirring the pot when he looked at strike three, missed the hospital visit, and had the knee surgery.  Now they can turn around and write stories of how he was the unfair victim of it all.
    I’ll admit that for every few times Beltran would wow me with a catch or hit, he’d make me cringe by not sliding or throwing to the wrong base. I hold that more against the laissez-faire coaching at the time than him, though.
