41 Amazin’ ideas for the Mets #39: help tutor the casual fan

My how time flies.  We’re nearing the end of the crowd-sourcing series.  This was an idea that came from Brian Reich, and I stole it with his permission and encouragement.

But since no good deed goes unpunished and I worked my inbox top-down he got pushed to late in the run.  There are lots of cool ideas here which normally I would split into separate posts, but as we begin to run out of defensive outs, let’s cram them all in..
– Post the rules of baseball in the ballpark for fans to easily review

– Have a knowledgeable staff/volunteer on hand to answer questions and explain elements of the game.

– Have a ‘tutor’ on hand to help teach people how to keep score during a baseball game (and at least once a season hand out free scorecards to fans so they can learn themselves)

– Offer a digital broadcast feed

– Create ‘kids activities’ relating to the game (hand out on paper, or via an app) – baseball specific scavenger hunts (what is David Wright’s batting average at the beginning of the game, what is it at the end?). Give kids of different age groups reasons to watch and follow and understand the game.
