According to ESPN the Mets drew 2,148,808 in 80 games in 2014 for an average of 26,860. You may recall Banner Day was a true single admission doubleheader, hence the 80 games.
2,135,657 was the number for 2013. So 2014 had more! The 2013 average was 26,695…also in 80 dates.
So there you have it Mets fans, the Mets drew an extra 165 people per game this season.
I still find it hard to believe that this business model (smaller ballparks / more luxury boxes / way under-filled ballparks) is better for both the Mets and the Yankees than having both ballparks whose capacity was 45K+ generally filled up every game in 1999/2000 when both teams were playing well, the cheapest seat was $15 and the most expensive seat didn’t top $100.
Smokin’! At this pace, we’ll be selling out our 40,000 seat stadium in 80 years! 🙂
And, Biff has a good point. You’d think a good-sized block of cheap tickets that brings in people to buy hot dogs and beer would do the business some good.
