Today’s must-read is a thorough walk through of the current legal situation surrounding The Mall.

Of interest is some language cited by the judge in where, if I understand it correctly, the 1961 law allowed for things like athletic events and entertainment presentations.  Also of interest to me is the below.

They are not required to construct the 2,500 housing units planned in the second phase, beginning 10 years from now, though they would have to pay $35 million to get out of the deal.

I know a lot of you get confused on all this.  As I understand it, this discussion is about the current Citi Field parking lot / former site of Shea and not about the side of 126th street which is where the chop shops are.  In the drawing above we’re talking about the thing on the left of Citi Field not the right.
