The past few days have been rather disheartening since “Uber Agent”, Scott Boras dredged back up the topic of Matt Harvey and the possible cap on his innings. I personally thought after Mets assistant G.M, John Rico addressed the media Friday night that fire was put out.
Obviously I was wrong. Yesterday as we all know Matt Harvey made himself available to the press and he pretty much echoed what his agent had said the previous day – that he would be shutting himself down once he hit the 180 cap that his Doctor – James Andrews had recommended. This cap would pretty much would disqualify him from pitching in the postseason if the Mets are able to hold onto their 5 game lead against the rival Washington Nationals.
There was much bile and venom spewed at Harvey from former Mets players, Mets beat writers and especially from the fans. He is being called “soft”, “hypocrite” as well as saying he is turning his back on the team.
Look I am not here to either praise Matt Harvey nor am I here to bury him. If anything I am a bit disillusioned as well as confused but I choose the withhold my judgment until after Harvey meets with Alderson tomorrow in Washington or if Dr. Andrews makes himself available to either clear up this issue or throw more fuel onto the proverbial fire.
All I know is from what I saw from yesterday’s press conference is a conflicted and pensive Matt Harvey. I didn’t see any arrogance in his answers. I saw a bewilderment in his stare and a disheartened tone in his voice. But I am not a psychologist and my views mostly bean nothing.
I am hoping against hope that after both parties after consulting with Dr. Andrews a comprehensive strategy will be devised and he will be allowed to pitch deep into the month of October.
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
One time pro reserve catcher turned Mets broadcaster, Fran Healy is 69 (1946). In my opinion he was one of the most boring play by play analysts the Mets ever employed.
One time five tool outfield prospect, Alex Escobar is 37 (1978).
Currently disabled left handed relief specialist, Jerry Blevins turns 32 (1983).
Other transactions of note include:
The New York Mets purchased the contract of middle reliever, Larry Foss from the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 6, 1962.
The New York Mets signed free agent utility man, Keith Miller on September 6, 1984.
Mo Vaughn has never had either a designated number of plate appearances not has he ever been on a calorie count !!!!
