Thanks For Nothing MLB

Usually I write my “This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty” posts, but after the events of last night my heart just isn’t into it.

I went to bed angry and confused last night/ early this morning and I woke up livid. We all know about the dirty slide that Chase Utley unleashed on Ruben Tejada during the seventh inning and how it devolved into a four run inning for the Dodgers, but the underlining fact is that second base umpire, Chris Guccione didn’t have the balls to call Utley out for interference.

I had tweeted last night just before Utley singled off of Noah Syndergaard that I was uneasy every time I see him coming up to the plate against the Mets and my feeling of dread was proven right. Chase Utley has made a career of sliding hard into second base in order to break up potential double plays – and I don’t contest that he isn’t allowed. The problem lies in the fact that he also has a history of doing the deed dirty. We have seen this in 2010 and we have seen it again last night.

All I know is what Utley ( a man at this point of his career is a back up infielder/pinch hitter) did was a cowardice act of desperation because lets face it folks the Dodgers up to that point were pretty much “Dead Team Walking”. Is it possible that the Dodgers still could have come from behind to win ? Of course but the way that they did win was baseball at its worse, and I hope there will be some type of disciplinary action levied on Utley.

I know that the fans believe that Harvey should make a statement tomorrow night and drill a batter, but lets be rational as well as realistic. I bet a Shake Shack burger that the umpiring crew as well as the MLB will issue warnings to both teams that there will be ejections if a batter is thrown at. I also doubt that Dodgers manager, Don “Donnie Baseball” Mattingly will have the balls to use Chase in any capacity during the next two games at Citi Field. So essentially Chase will escape retaliation from the Mets just like Roger Clemens did when he beaned Piazza back in 2000. The statement that Harvey needs to make is just be dominant !

What the Mets need to do is to channel their anger and frustration that stemmed the events from last night and use it as motivation to beat the Dodgers swiftly and soundly.

I also want to thank players such as Justin Upton, Jose Reyes for voicing their displeasure on Twitter as well as  Hall of Fame pitcher, Pedro Martinez, Keith Hernandez and Jim Duquette for using last nights postgame wrap up shows as a platform to expose the inadequacies and vague interpretations that has crept in since the instant replay was introduced.

The silver lining here is that the Mets left L.A. with a win. Lets just hope they will be able to win tomorrow nights game and clinch on Wednesday.

  1. lagranderusty www metspolice Tejada was assaulted & Mets were robbed and MLB on JoeTorre watch stood by & let it happen

  2. lagranderusty Rational. I’m not in that mood. I want Utley drilled in the neck with a 100 MPH fastball.

  3. MetsProspectHub that proves nothing . Mets will be aggressive on the base paths now & will use this as motivation

  4. lagranderusty had it been ruled DP there certainly would’ve been no argument, my point is, this type slide happens 100s of times w/o injury

  5. AtmosFeerick of course there wouldn’t have been an argument. Only reason it was reviewable is because it wasn’t.

  6. scottmbarrett pgammo metspolice did Murphy throw a tackle or did he slide into Utley ?

  7. lagranderusty pgammo metspolice he slid into Rollins but nowhere near the bag and way way late. Different plays but both dirty.

  8. lagranderusty I read it and respectfully disagree with almost everything you wrote. Your bias is awful

  9. AtmosFeerick yep. Utley expected Tejada to keep going. Tejada stopped. Utley hit him. Don’t see why that’s so hard for people to grasp.
