Questions for the Born Again Mets Fans about to leave us

mets exit

Dear Big Mets Fan,

I am happy you found Yoenis last summer and came back to the family.  We missed you since you left us somewhere in the summer of 2009.

I’m glad you enjoyed the playoffs, and got to chant LGM with the diehards.

Now I am worried.  I see your tweets.  I sense you’re about to bail again.  Here are some questions for you as we go around the horn….

3B: you didn’t really think Wright was going to play 140 games did you?  Clearly Flores was the plan all along (why else would he be on the team) and he’s doing fine.

SS: Cabrera is better than you expected, and you probably hated Tejada anyway.  Oh, and google Jose Reyes, you may have missed a news story about him.  That pipe dream is over.

2B:  People sure loved Neil Walker in April, and he’s definitely not the problem on this team.  Hell, just the other night Gary and Ron were telling us he could hit 40 home runs.  So that ain’t broken.

1B:  I read in the newspaper that Lucas Duda was the most hated athlete in NYC or something.  I thought that was crap, but hey maybe you hated him, and hey injuries happen.

LF:  Psssst sometimes the league figures out a hitter in his sophomore year, and it takes a while for the hitter to adjust.  Or sometimes his name is Ike and he winds up a Yankee.  Anyway, remain calm.

CF:  you came to Yoenis.  He’s here (at least until he opts out this winter and you go back to hating the Wilpons.)

RF:  Granderson starts slow.  Every year.  The numbers will be there.  Remain calm.

C:  OMG d’Arnaud is injured! That’s as shocking as Wright not playing 140.  And you used to like Plawecki until about 10 days ago.

P:  we had our Dark Knight panic, but The Dark Knight has returned to his first ballot HOF ways!  And you Born Agains are so new you only know of Popular Colon, not the guy nobody wanted on the team two winters ago.  The rotation is fine.  The bullpen is fine.

Manager:  I know we all hate Terry again (except yesterday when he was in the hospital).  Which players was he supposed to start last week?

If there is a complaint, it’s the same as always, the Mets seem to lack organizational depth and they seem to enjoy playing short handed waiting for injuries to magically heal.  That’s the GM and/or his boss Jeff.  And the GM was a genius when you refound your love of the Mets last summer after his first choice trade fell through.

So here we are, 4.5 back into Flag Day with a Net Negative having an MVP season for the main rival.  Why the panic? Why are you running for the exit?  It’s a long season and the Mets play the Nationals many more times.

Enjoy the ride.

And y’all say I’m the negative one.  Hmmmm.
