SLACKISH REACTION: What the hell was that? A complete no show from the lineup card to the performance. I guess we’ll blame this one on the rain (must have been wet in the manager’s office at 10am) and move on, because Mickey is groovy and all, but if Terry handed that in you’d be rioting in the streets.
The Mets are 4.5 out with 20 wins. Jeter’s Marlins who aren’t even trying to pretend have 16 wins. The Mets had 11 wins 5 weeks ago.
Did you see Dave Eiland (who is likely not in uniform as you read this since he never appears to be in uniform) backpedaled on the Noah stuff. He was right the other day but someone must have sent him a memo.
Keith Hernandez on Matt Harvey
“You can do all those things if you’re a star player. Steve Carlton did not talk to the press most of his career, in Philadelphia where they’re tough, but 300-something wins they left him alone,” he said. “Perform at a certain level — the highest level if you’re gonna do the things Matt did. I think he put the cart before the horse. I think he wanted to be the next Joe Namath.” (Daily News)
I guess now that KH says it its gospel. I have been saying all this for 5 years including using the term Full Namath but I was told I was a cranky old man. You all come around eventually every time.
Here’s a recap of Matt’s second start for the Reds
In other news, the Mets used an incorrect Canadian Flag and could have caused an international incident!
It makes no sense to me that baseball plays weekday day games. You can’t tell me that nobody wants Saturday afternoon games but that they want Wednesday afternoon games. I get that it’s a schedule thing but MLB needs to shrink the season (the record book is destroyed anyway so who cares) and build in off days and stop playing midweek day games, it’s insane if you really think about it.
