Mets Police Morning Laziness: #MickeyMagic is back and the rebuild has begun

SLACKISH REACTION:  Whoa didn’t expect to wake up to this…

I got a press release and everything!

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 10, 2018 – The New York Mets after tonight’s game announced that they have given infielder Adrián González his unconditional release. On Tuesday, the Mets will designate catcher Jose Lobaton for assignment, will recall Dominic Smith from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, and will select the contract of infielder/outfielder Ty Kelly from Las Vegas.

Smith, 22, was hitting .260 (57-219) with 16 doubles, two home runs, 25 RBI and a .343 on-base percentage in 56 games for the 51s this year. Smith appeared in two games with the Mets earlier this year and went 0-1.

Smith hit nine homers with six doubles, 26 RBI while batting .198 (33-167) in 49 games for the Mets in 2017.

Kelly, 29, was hitting .262 (53-202) with 12 doubles, four triples, six homers, 29 RBI and a .346 on-base percentage in 60 games for the 51s.

The 6-0, 185-pounder has hit .211 (31-147) with eight doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI in 109 career major league games with the Mets and Phillies.

González, 36, hit .237 (40-169) with five doubles, six homers and 26 RBI in 54 games for the Mets this year.

Lobaton, 33, batted .152 (7-46) with two doubles and three RBI in 19 games for the Mets this season.

Interestingly, per The Post, “The Mets announced the moves after manager Mickey Callaway’s media availability and did not make any team officials available for comment.”

FWIW Smith has not been good at AAA, but hey at least its makes sense to try.

Mickey’s red-hot Mets closed to within 6.5 of the division leaders.

Good Reyes-killing piece in the Post.

Lugo as a Starter: With (last night’s) win, the Mets improved to 18-10 in Lugo’s first 28 career starts…According to Elias, only Dwight Godoen (19-9) had a better team record in his first 28 career starts than Lugo.

And here are some interesting numbers:

Time: 2:40

Another sub 3 hour game.  Mickeyball may suck, but it IS fast.  However when you start at 8:08 or whatever random number ESPN picked that’s still almost 11.  I turned it off at 10 but I hope the people in Spokane enjoyed New York vs. New York

Attendance: 36,171

For a Subway Series game?  That’s not even anywhere near a sellout.  NOBODY likes Sunday night games.  Nobody.
