The old days

Oh man, there goes Mets Police again being old and cranky and claiming baseball has a major problem on its hands and pretending that the next two generations have checked tout on the sport and that the younger generation would rather play Fortnite.  Is the guy even a baseball fan?  Oh wait…this is an external study sounding the alarm…

“A New Age Of Sports,” a new study from the group led by former U.S. Olympian Angela Ruggiero, outlines the notion of a “Fluid Fan” that is far more open to changing team, league, and sport allegiances than their predecessors, often prioritizes social values over winning, and often wants to be a content creator instead of just a content consumer. “We see the current situation in the industry, and this research, as a call to action and a wake-up call to the industry,” Ruggiero told SportBusiness. “

This is a good read which goes on to mention Fortnite and Netflix.  If you are a baseball executive on Park Avenue I strongly recommend you read it.

As I reflect on it, this always comes back to WHY I root for a team and it’s not just the laundry.  I have zero connection to the current squad.  I don’t dislike them, but I really don’t have a player I am into right now and haven’t since Murph left.  And I think that gets into the modern sports age where you watch “LeBron James” and not necessarily the team he is on….which gets back to BASEBALL DOES NOT HAVE STARS.   You can argue that point all you want but BASEBALL DOES NOT HAVE STARS right now.

Anyway my blog is stupid and negative and I am old and cranky and don’t get it.  Baseball is fine.  It really is.
