Mets Police Morning Laziness: I am really struggling to be interested in baseball

SLACKISH REACTION:  Same beat from me, and I know the blog is in a Lyin’ Todd Frazier-like slump (sad) – but as I had the game on last night I was wondering why I even bother.

I had the game ON, but I don’t really watch it….and I am not doing schtick here….because it’s boring.  I guess at some point baseball was not boring, but I feel like I am in season 50-something of a TV show with all the good characters long gone.   Gary and Keith are just the soundtrack to me reading reddit.

After deGrom left I decided I had had enough and turned the game off.  To my surprise it was barely after 9.  I watched Our Planet on Netflix, and then was sleepy so I put the Mets back on to drown out the sounds of my kids making kitchen runs.  Gary woke me up with the HR call…and then I woke up again to Mickey’s post game .  I just didn’t care.

On that note, read this study about how the next generation is not making bonds with teams, or this one about attendance.   On twitter, many of us spent the afternoon discussing the price of going to games (including transportation and food) and it was an ugly picture.

Today the Mets will play a noon-time game.   I do not understand how weekday day games may sense in 2019 but Saturday afternoon games do not.   Blah blah travel and school trips and camps, yeah I know.  But Thursday at noon?  How does that make sense from the POV of being an entertainment property?

I don’t even know what I want from baseball.  I think I’d like a nice solid 2.5 hour game between the 1985 Cardinals and 1985 Mets.  This current version of the sport….just not interested.
