Well this is interesting. On twitter (the Mets didn’t yet get a chance to send me a press release) the Mets have announced a FanFest.
FANFEST will feature appearances by new manager Carlos Beltrán, current Mets players, Mets’ legends, and include games, ballpark tours, and other activities for the whole family. The event will run from 12PM to 6PM, with three 2-hour sessions.
They say…
FANFEST will provide fun for the whole family with activities including, but not limited to:
- A Main Stage with panel discussions and Q&As, featuring Mets players and staff
- Autographs from players and alumni
- Self-guided tours throughout the ballpark, with stops including the Mets home clubhouse, television and radio broadcast booths, the press conference room, and more!
- Highlight reels in the Mets Auditorium
Young fans will have the chance to take swings in the visiting batting cages, play video games, interact with players, and take photos with Mr. and Mrs. Met.
Very interesting and as someone who has long said the Mets should have a Fan Fest I think this is cool.
I am also closely aligned with (and one of the founders although not actively involved with) the Queens Baseball Convention so I want to take a beat here and collect my thoughts as I know more than most about all this.
It does appear that they have learned from the QBC, which is all fair and good as we ourselves learned from both San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con. Do the Mets have the right people in place to pull this off in a fan-friendly way….that remains to be seen, but hey the Mets have a Fan Fest so that’s cool and what we all wanted in the first place.
I have asked Media Goon to post his thoughts on this and I will circle back with mine later.
Sure is odd they forgot to send me a press release. They sent me Metsgiving last week. I’m sure an innocent oversight.
