Coronavirus and Robinson Cano’s quest for 3000 hits

Robinson Cano has 2570 hits.

Let’s assume MLB plays a 100 game schedule.  Last year, in 107 games, Cano had 100 hits.

Let’s be optimistic and say he plays better.   He bats .320 in 390 ABs….that’s an additional 125.

So he’d finish 2020 with 2695 hits.  Let’s just make it 2700.

He would have three years left on his contract.   Does he have 100 hits a year in him through Age 40?   Is he an every day 2B at age 39 and 40?

Is Coronavirus going to cost him 3000, with him falling just short because of half a season?

If he plays at 2017 levels (166 hits) he should get to 3000 easily…..but given his age, his performance, and the games being shaved off the calendar….this might be a wait it out situation come 2023.

Is this a random topic today?  Yeah.

You got a better one?  No.  You’re already clicking on Matt Harvey Video Game articles lol.
