Billy Eppler suspended by MLB

Billy Eppler, who was hired by Steve Cohen after Eppler oversaw whatever went down in Anaheim (google it) has been suspended by MLB.

The Athletic reports

Major League Baseball has suspended former New York Mets general manager Billy Eppler through the 2024 World Series for improper use of the injured list, including the “deliberate fabrication of injuries,” commissioner Rob Manfred announced Friday.

MLB said its investigation “concluded that the pattern of conduct was at Mr. Eppler’s sole direction and without any involvement of Mets ownership or superiors.”

Well I am glad that Mets ownership was not involved. I’d hate to think of Uncle Steve being involved in anything shady, so it’s great that he was not.

Back in 2021, after hiring Eppler, Steve Cohen was quoted by the New York Times as saying “I just came back from the M.L.B. owner meetings, and I can tell you: just universal praise for the hiring.”

Eppler resigned last year, and was replaced by former Wilpons David Stearns.  The difference between the two is Eppler once signed Ohtani.
