Wow here’s a quote! Â Missed this one yesterday. Â Darryl Strawberry in the Post discussing the 2010 Mets and their lack of swagger.
“They beat all over them and they laugh at them..”
“It’s like, ‘If I get a hit, OK; if I don’t, I don’t.”
This is my favorite Met team in more than a decade, but Darryl is absolutely right. I love all the home grown talent, but hate the lack of fire. Cora’s outburst last week was actually a relief. To us, the fans, it shouts that someone actually cares.
In this day, the day of the basketball superstar joining forces rather than putting a team on his back (still sick over that), we can’t assume that our favorite athletes have any sense of pride. And that, that’s just sad.
Isn’t this the second time this year Darryl has ripped this team?
Chemistry is something we talk about when the team isn’t winning. If they were coming home from a 9-2 road trip, we’d be inventing the swagger for them.
They look lifeless because they got shut out four times on a 2-9 trip. I’m not in the dugout or the clubhouse – I can’t tell you if it’s because they just don’t care or if its because they all care so much that they’re trying to hit a home run in every at bat.
Darryl, being a former player, probably has better intuition about it than I do — but he’s not around the team enough to know for sure either.
