No move the right move

Sure I’d love to have a Cliff Lee on the team.

Yes it’s annoying that the Yankees got a bunch of people we’ve heard of to be spare parts.

But the Mets aren’t close enough to make it worth trading the future and aren’t enough of a disaster to start trading Santana or Reyes or Wright.

So sit tight and hope there’s some .700 ball coming.

I stand by what I said before the season. The mission should be to win the World Series. I won’t be happy with 85 wins but to mortgage the future just ain’t worth it tonight.

No move was the right move.

  1. I agree. The two good things that came out of this trade deadline: The Mets didn’t do anything stupid, and Jorge Cantu is no longer in the division.

  2. I agree, we don’t need a replay of 2004. These teams were asking for an awful lot for average players. If the Mets had a 6 game lead instead of being 6 back i’d say take a flyer on some guys and go for broke, but it’s not worth it right now. I was dying for them to do something but I am glad at this point they didn’t.

  3. Before I agree, I want to see what the PTBNL is for Kerry Wood since I believe that move was nothing more than a money dump. However, the Mets could have put together a better package for Lilly and Theriot than the Cubs did. Also, the Mets could have put together a better package for Haren than the Angels did. The Lilly deal was at little cost to the Dodgers, and Haren is a relatively young pitcher with a good contract that would have excelled in Citi Field.

Also, why not inquire on Saltalamacchia? Overall, I think the Wilpons told Minaya to sit this one out because if they will get anyone it’ll be right before 8/31 when those players are at a much lower cost.

  4. So I guess we fans are to accept an 85 win season and no playoffs. I agree paying top dollar for someone we won’t own for long is stupid. Getting a Cliff Lee, a young star, was worth a shot, as was Haren. One thing we do have is money, one thing we dont have is a safe bullpen. Kerry Wood was not expensive in players, could have had him for an A ball player and paying his salary. Does Omar even care or does he have his resume on Monster already? Being 7 back with 55 to play is do-able, but not with AAA call ups . I think the Mets just admitted this team has not been built very well, they are 4-5 pieces away from contending.
