I’m working on a new series aboiut crappy Mets merchandise and I stumbled across this photo.
Looks like Wrigley Field in the 1970’s? Before the sports bars across the street? Bobby in a road jersey?
Yes?
What Mets fans talk about when not talking about the actual games.
It sure looks like Wrigley in the 70s.
This picture also serves to underscore one thing I really hate about the Mets (and love about the Yankees). The Cubs and Yanks play in neighborhoods. The Mets play in a large-scale urban planning disaster, devoid of community.
And it gives the lie to their Brooklyn
… Dodgers heritage, since the Dodgers were all about community.
Are you insulting the chop shops of Queens?! And there is a neighborhood adjacent to the Stadium — it’s called Corona and Louis Armstrong once lived there.
Shea 2.0 is a neighborhood ball park. The neighborhoods just happen to be one subway stop away in either direction.
If they ever develop 126th street we could have something cool.
But Corona is separated by the highway…it’s not like there are great sports bars on 114th
