Newsday caught up with Dave Howard in an article that Newsday calls “Nobody’s home: Mets’ ticket sales decline”
Howard said total tickets sold are comparable to this time last year. That suggests more tickets than last season were sold for the summer months, because through Wednesday average paid attendance was down an average of 3,031 per game to 27,288, according to baseball-reference.com.

Unfortunately Newsday’s numbers a questionable. They appear to be dividing the reported ticket sales by the number of games played. The problem is, the Mets have played one more game, than the number of ticket dates.
As of Wednesday’s game The reported season gate was 573,045. Dividing that by 21 games played Newsday got 27,288 (27,287.857i42…). But, they only had 20 ticket dates at that point (single ticket Dbl Hdr on Apr 14th. So, the average gate per ticket date is actually 28,652 (28,652.25)
You have to call into question the rest of any numbers they claim.
Yes, they state “according to baseball-reference.com”, but, baseball-reference.com only lists total season gate. So Newsday staff had to do the faulty math.
