Collection of four exceedingly rare New York Mets pieces relating to the birth of the franchise. Each of these items, all of which originate from an advanced New York Mets collection, are extremely historic in their nature and represent four of the most unique Mets pieces we have ever seen, let alone offered. 1) Original contract between the New York Mets and the City of New York, dated October 6, 1961. The 136-page contract, which is formally titled “Agreement between The City Of New York and Metropolitan Baseball Club, Inc.,” stipulates all of the details involved in such a partnership. It also gives the formal approval for the construction of a new stadium in Queens, with a diagram of the proposed stadium and grounds included in the agreement. Among the forty-four articles listed here are those titled “Construction of Stadium Premises,” “Concessions,” “Parking,” “Scoreboards and Exterior Signs,” “Maintenance of Playing Field,” “Cleaning,” “Rent,” Television,” “City’s Rights to Use Stadium Facility,” “Insurance,” and “Default.” This rare document originates from the family of W. B. Richland, an attorney for the Corporation Council of New York City who helped draw up the agreement. This is the first example of this historic legal document we have ever seen. The contract (8.5 x 11 inches) has a few light pencil notations on the cover and is slightly toned. Excellent to Mint condition overall. 2) Original double-sided artist’s proof for the cover of the New York Mets inaugural 1962 yearbook featuring the artwork of Willard Mullin. Each side features the same exact image with different color schematics. 11.5 x 17.5 inches. Excellent to Mint condition. 3) 1963 original master recording of Meet the Mets, the official song of the New York Mets. The 75-rpm RCA Victor “Reference Recording” features the instrumental on one side, and the vocal rendition on the other. The record is in Excellent to Mint condition and housed in a brown paper sleeve. Included with the master recording is a 1963 retail 45-rpm record of Meet the Mets in its original sleeve (Vg). As noted in print on the reverse of the sleeve, “The master recording of ‘MEET THE METS’ was made on March 1, 1963 and was introduced to the public for the first time on Saturday, March 9, 1963.” 4) 1962 New York Mets transistor radio/clock manufactured by Bulova. The radio/clock is housed in special case, with the lid featuring the New York Mets emblem displaying three tiny inset gems. This radio/clock was a special gift presented to Mets’ executives and staff members at the end of the year in commemoration of the club’s inaugural season. The case displays moderate handling wear, including a few small chips and light oxidation to some of the metal components. The battery operated radio/clock is free of any major flaws. Excellent condition overall. Total: 4 items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
