The Mets lose Williamsburg | Todd Radom Design

WHOA…go read THIS.

Finally, here are details of the 1962 logo, stacked up against the 2012 version, along with a close-up of the top of the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building. Somewhere along the way, within the Mets’ logo, the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building became something else entirely.

  1. Williamsburg savings was where Madoff was holding their money.  This is a subtle revenge move by Fred.

  2. HOLY BANANAS! That’s seriously beyond anything and I can’t believe this has gone by unnoticed for so long. Even sportslogos.net doesn’t have the real original logo. After looking at both logos over and over, they need to change it back. The current logo misses the symmetry present in the original logo, not to mention it helps shape the M, and it just messes with the history and tradition that the Mets are about! Bring back Willy B!

  3. Nice piece on the slight alteration of the Mets logo. I’ve always had a soft heart for the Williamsburg bank building, I went to HS very close by and would walk past it nearly every afternoon. The building has been converted to luxury condominiums.

  4. These changes certainly deface an iconic piece of art for me. I guess most people don’t realize or don’t care. I have noticed this for many years and you almost never see the original version anymore. It would take a concerted effort by the Mets to restore it, but they could do it with restoring the NY with the building. I think it also looks better with the orange seam.
