The Force told me to pop over to MLB Shop this morning, and when I did I saw the offensive Mets cap (the one that reinforces the stereotype of Irish as subhumans, read this for more on that) has been listed as closeout.
Meanwhile, on Lids this non-offensive cap is listed as “2015”
Hopefully the offensive cap is no more and can sit on a shelf somewhere with some of the Cleveland caps of yore.
If this is the cap to be worn this year good job by all parties involved, although I would like to see the offensive caps not sold at all and recycled as industrial rags.
I am going to wear my Leprechaun Mr. Met hat next time we hang out.
I like the article on dehumanizing the irish but how does the color green fit into that? Just wondering. I see green as a symbol of pride and beauty of my country.
MarioAsaro the one in this article is fine, its the one with the Mr. O’Met
Wait…its a leprechaun? Tell the whiner running the site its a fictional elf and not a depiction of, you know, an ACTUAL IRISH PERSON. Then he can stop comparing it to actual humans being actually stereotyped like the ones he posted in ny and sf caps… maybe then we can get him an Easter Bunny hat to complain about.
I also run the site, everyone is entitled to their opinions, so to call Shannon a whiner isn’t cool man. No need for the name calling here, but I feel you are right about the fact that Mr Met as a leprechaun is no big deal. With Shannon and Dan Twohig they both have said that the look of the leprechauns have come from they way Britain has depicted Irish citizens when they were ruling/fighting with Ireland. That’s their stance. To me, the leprechaun is a mythical creature from Ireland that ranges from Darby O’Gill and the little people to Lucky from lucky charms to The Leprechaun he tries to kill Jennifer Anniston for a whole movie.
