Baseball team promotes All You Can Drink special

I got an email about an All You Can Drink special from a baseball team (not the New York Mets).

It includes….

  • One (1) wristband for All-You-Can-Drink draft beer, wine, mixed drinks & soft drinks*

  • One (1) voucher for a hot dog, burger, chicken fingers or sausage

  • One (1) voucher for French fries, pretzel, chips or peanuts.

Service begins when gates open (90 minutes prior to first pitch) and will continue until one hour after scheduled first pitch (two hours and 30 minutes total).

There is also a disclaimer that

The consumption of alcoholic beverages by intoxicated persons or persons who appear to be intoxicated is prohibited. Management reserves the right to discontinue service of alcohol at any time to an individual or group.  Guests will be limited to two (2) drinks at a time.

Now I know I’m the fun police and all, but isn’t this an odd promotion for 2017?   All you can drink.  Two drinks at a time.   Seems like an invitation that will be very attractive to those who are less skilled than others at regulating their alcohol intake.   I’m sure the baseball team will do their best to make sure everyone drinks responsibly but I dunno this one feels weird.

It feels extra weird in this age where we’re adding netting and screening people at the gates.   Isn’t fueling someone up with alcohol also potentially dangerous.  I know I have had far more uncomfortable encounters at games with drunks than I have with foul balls (zero) or Isis (also zero).
