Programing Note: It’s Niko (@NikoMetsPlus), filling in for a quick Harv Recap, Shannon will be back in the morning.
There are very few things more exciting in life on a Saturday night then watching the Cincinnati Reds for three hours. And while that might sound sarcastic, I did get a good laugh every inning, as our favorite pitcher, Matt “Harv” Harvey squared off against the Nationals in Washington D.C.
Harvey looked like had his usual stuff in the first inning, nothing overpowering, just league average. A few well-placed hits here and there, and Harvey has given up his first run, with the ole’ “I don’t deserve this” gaze towards center field:
These are three possible thoughts that were going through Matt’s head at this point in the game:
- “I thought I’d be playing for Washington right now, not pitching against them….”
- “I wonder how the D.C nightlife is, better blow this game quick”
- “At least that blogger in New York is on vacation, so he won’t be able to take screenshots of this”
Harvey continued to give up a run in each subsequent inning. He actually had decent stuff in the first two innings, but the Nationals have a scrappy lineup (as Mets fans know all too well) and they worked deep at bats against him.
At a certain point, Harvey fell down when blocking a ball coming in from the outfield, and stayed down for a few seconds out of pure frustration.
Have to admit, I kind of felt bad for him at this point. He was looking a little better all summer in Cincinnati, with the hopes of getting traded to a contender, and instead he sticks around and pitches poorly in Washington.
Look at this face he made after he gave up the next batch of runs in the fourth inning, that’s more disappointment then the usual cockiness.
At least he kept his classic un-buttoned uniform (which looks far worse with the Cincinnati road uniform, by the way) to remind you it’s still him.
Final line for Matt, 4.0 IP, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K.
Tonight was 2018 Harvey in a Mets uniform all over again, with a little more frustration, so while it was a Joker performance, we will end this with the sad, tried-everything no-joker:
