NEW YORK METS SET SINGLE-SEASON ATTENDANCE RECORD AT CITI FIELD

The Mets welcomed 3,182,057 fans to the ballpark this year, breaking their previous record set in 2009 when Citi Field opened

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 21, 2025 – The New York Mets announced today that the team set a new, all-time single-season attendance record in 2025, welcoming 3,182,057 to Citi Field this season. The historic milestone surpasses the previous attendance high of 3,168,571 set when the ballpark opened in 2009.

“We have the best fans in all of baseball,” said Mets Owners Steve and Alex Cohen. “They are more than just fans, they are part of our Amazin’ Mets family. We are deeply grateful to every person that came out to support the team this year. From our season ticket members to lifelong fans and those new to our ballpark, we know the electric energy at Citi Field this season is due to their unwavering support. We want to thank our fans and the Mets organization for achieving this historic milestone.”

This incredible moment comes just days after eclipsing the three million fan mark on September 17. Over the course of the regular season, the Mets recorded a 38 percent increase in average attendance per game at Citi Field compared to last season, resulting in 19 sellouts and 48 games with more than 40,000 fans in attendance.

“Our fanbase is special and they bring a unique passion and energy to the ballpark every single game. The players feel that and feed off it, providing a true home field advantage,” said David Stearns, Mets President of Baseball Operations. “On behalf of the entire team, we’d like to thank our incredible fans who showed up the entire season to support us.”

This season at Citi Field featured a wide range of fan friendly initiatives with the introduction of Family Sundays and the return of several fan favorite ballpark promotions including Mets Kids Club presented by Dunkin’, $5 Tuesdays, Fireworks Nights and Block Parties, as well as over 30 gate giveaway items and more than 15 theme nights and specialty ticketed package items. Citi Field was also recognized for its cuisine for the third consecutive season, being voted Best Stadium Food in 2023, and Best Baseball Stadium Food in 2024 and 2025.

The new documentary, presented by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, follows the impact that Shea Stadium, Mets employees and players had on the relief efforts immediately after 9/11.

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 11, 2025 – The New York Mets released a new documentary today called “11 Days in September”, presented by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The film highlights untold stories of the days following the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and the pivotal role Shea Stadium and Mets uniform personnel and employees at the time played in the relief efforts.

“11 Days in September” features behind-the-scenes moments that underscore the Mets’ support for the city’s healing process, and how 24 years ago, Shea Stadium became a recovery hub, as a group of people came together for the sake of others. The film includes firsthand accounts from current and former employees, as well as Mets alumni including Bobby Valentine, Mike Piazza, Todd Zeile, John Franco and Al Leiter.

Milestone will be reached for the first time since 2009 during the final homestand of the season which opens on Friday, September 12 and concludes with Fan Appreciation Weekend on September 19-21 

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 10, 2025 – For the first time since Citi Field’s inaugural season in 2009, the New York Mets are on pace to welcome three million fans to the ballpark this season. The Mets will reach the milestone during their final homestand, ahead of Fan Appreciation Weekend, which will take place from September 19-21. The Mets are encouraging fans to be at Citi Field to celebrate the milestone and Fan Appreciation Weekend together.

“Thank you to the best fans in baseball for an incredible turnout this season,” said Lew Sherr, President of Business Operations, New York Mets. “You can feel the energy and excitement in the ballpark every game. Eclipsing the three million fan mark is a testament to the passion of our fans. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the final homestand of the regular season.”

The Mets will celebrate their Amazin’ fans on the weekend with a pre-game block party on Saturday, gate giveaways, concession and merchandise discounts, alumni appearances, and other surprise-and-delight experiences. There will also be a special gift when the three million mark is reached.

The Fan Appreciation Weekend festivities will include:

  • Saturday Block Party: Starting at 1:10 p.m. outside of Citi Field, from the Jackie Robinson Rotunda to the Left Field Gate, Saturday Block Party will include games, attractions, and entertainment including a DJ, appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Met, and performances by The Queens Crew (LOL, Alex, let this one go.). In addition to the entertainment, there will be food trucks featuring some ballpark favorites.
  • Gate Giveaways: Gate giveaways including a Pop-Up Home Run Apple presented by Apple Bank for the first 15,000 fans on Friday, September 19, a Long Sleeve T-Shirt presented by Citi for all fans in attendance on Saturday, September 20, and a Pete Alonso Mets Home Run Topps Card for the first 15,000 fans on Sunday, September 21.

Davey Johnson, the man who reminded the Mets how to win

Some quick thoughts about Davey Johnson.

If you’re of a certain age you first started hearing about Manager Davey Johnson in 1983  (you’d later learn he was a pretty good baseball player who made the last out of the 1969 World Series).

There were articles about how he was using Computers(!) to figure out whatever he was figuring out.

When he showed up in Queens in 1984 the team had a spark.  We waited most of the summer for that inevitable fade, and it really never came, even though the Cubs annoyingly picked that same summer to be good.

I think my favorite thing about Davey was the cowboy lineups.  Let’s play Kevin Mitchell at Shortstop….sure why not?  Man that was fun.

In following years I enjoyed his feisty discussions with The Young Howie Rose (and man I increasingly miss The Young Howie Rose) on Mets Extra which was a must listen in the days before internet (and in the days of half the Mets games being on Cable TV when Cable TV wasn’t even a thing you could get in Queens….really.)

Eventually the media sharks started to turn on Davey and he was let go and really Queens has never been the same.

Give Davey Johnson three Wild Cards as a safety net and there’s a good chance the Mets have banners from 1985 and 1987 on the fence.

NEW YORK METS TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT AT CITI FIELD

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 8, 2025 – In honor of Roberto Clemente Day, the New York Mets will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Night presented by Coors Light on Tuesday, September 16 at Citi Field, when they take on the San Diego Padres at 7:10 p.m. As part of the celebration, there will be a special pre-game ceremony honoring Francisco Lindor as the Mets 2025 Roberto Clemente Award nominee.

There will be a variety of programming throughout the evening as part of the celebration. Fans can enjoy a pre-game concert featuring Mariachi Bohemio NYC at 6:30 p.m. playing on the field behind home plate as well as music from DJ Suaso throughout the game. The National Anthem will be performed on violin by Katia Lindor, Francisco Lindor’s wife, who is a classically trained violinist. Additionally, the first pitch will be thrown by Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter and actor, Residente.

Finally, fans can support the Tacombi Foundation by participating in the Amazin’ Mets Foundation 50/50 raffle. Volunteers from the Tacombi Foundation, a non-profit that aims to address food insecurity to individuals in underserved communities by preparing and distributing wholesome Mexican meals, will be selling raffle tickets to help raise money to support for their mission.
